Every day, an adventure!
Russ Snyder's Home Page

I have lived and continue to live a most interesting and rewarding life. It seems to me that it would be a shame for me to let this life pass without leaving behind some record of it and that, if I am to construct such a record, this website is a good place to start. My hope is that others may take some interest and pleasure in viewing this record (and its embedded photos and videos) and that they will show some tolerance when the narrative becomes too tedious or the political rhetoric too animated. (I plan to confine this rhetoric to the Soapbox page, but, inevitably, some may leak out onto other pages as well.)

I recognize that it will take a major effort on my part to construct this website. (My sense is that this effort will be comparable to that required to write a book. Indeed, I do not preclude the possibility that this site might eventually grow into a book!) In any event, it will be quite a few years before the site is in any sense complete. In the meantime, I hope that the reader will forgive the gaps in the evolving narrative.

Currently active at the bottom of the page are the Biography, Catspaw, Music, Videos, Soapbox, Site Navigation, and Site Log links.

The Biography link is to a brief summary biography that provides some context for the remaining links.

The Catspaw link focuses on a dominant player in the site's narrative, the 36 ft cruising ketch, Catspaw. Catspaw is shown at the top of this page, enroute from Fiji to New Zealand, following the only storm encountered during her trip around the world, 1980-1983. She has been hove to under single reefed main for about half a day. That's me on the foredeck, preparing to hoist the working jib. The Catspaw link is one of the better developed (but nonetheless still incomplete) links in this website as, prior to her sale in 2010, the site was employed to provide a detailed description and history (for prospective buyers).

The Music link describes my lifelong interest in music as a player (viola) and sometime composer.

The Videos link describes another interest that has become a major preoccupation during the last several decades of my life.

Soapbox is a (mostly political) blog, initiated in the runup to the November 2012 elections.

Site Navigation discusses the navigation of this site and its subsites. Site Log provides a running commentary on the construction of these sites. The remaining entries at the bottom of the page are (inactive) markers for anticipated future links.

Earlier versions of this website included a May 2003 high school reunion subsite, my first attempt at constructing a website. This reunion subsite was accessible from Snyderstation, but was password protected. As of July 2021, this website remains in the Snyderstation domain, but it has been decoupled from the Snyderstation website and must be entered independently. It remains password protected.

These two websites employ a similar scroll-based single-column navigation scheme and a color scheme based on the school colors for Swarthmore High School (in the same Pennsylvania town as Swarthmore College).
